iPhone in Canada baby!

So for a few weeks, I had a fancy iPod Touch, until someone came out with a software unlock for the phone part. After doing some research, it appeared to me that it was going to be a long-time before it could happen to 1.1.2 OTB (out-the-box) versions of the iPhone. Another option was to purchase something called a StealthSIM, a SIM-shaped very thin circuit board which basically tricks the iPhone to work with your GSM SIM card. I ordered one this week from iphonestealth.ca, a Canadian dealer of the StealthSIM card out of Ontario. I paid about $120, which included Fed-Ex shipping and tax. At first, it didn't work (which was discouraging). However, once I realized that I had to update my iPhone back to 1.1.2 from the 1.1.1 firmware I had previously downgraded to (so I could Jailbreak the iPhone), everything worked like a hot damn! I quickly called a few of my iBuddies (friends with and without iPhones) to let them know that I had succeeded. So, to recap: Apple iPhone $399, StealthSIM card: $120. Total amount for working iPhone in Canada: Priceless.

hi paul, we met at 525 Seymour with Derek Miller sometime last year!

i just bought a stealth sim and iphone with 1.1.2

so the procedure (to make a working phone, i don't care about 3rd party apps) is:
1. downgrade to 1.1.1
2. jailbreak
3 upgrade to 1.1.2

is that right? (you can email roland AT rolandtanglao.com if you want to take this out of this blog)
I wish step 1 wasn't required!
happy holidays!
